In Summer 2017, Dr. Chen received the Milton C. Shaw
Manufacturing Research Medal
from ASME for his "seminal
contribution to the science and
technology
of manufacturing processes in the area
of 3-D printing, bioprinting and
nanomanufacturing".
In Spring 2017, Michelle received a UCSD Friends Scholarship and
Institute of Engineering in Medicine (IEM) Graduate Fellowship;
In Spring 2017, Peter received a UCSD Frontiers of Innovation Scholars
Program (FISP) Graduate Fellowship.
The Chen lab hosted 7 undergraduate students researchers in the
summer of 2016.
Congratulations to Michelle Ma for winning the Interdisciplinary
Research Award at UC San Diego and winning an Outstanding
Presentation Award in the Student and Young Investigator oral
presentation competition during the 2015 TERMIS World Congress in
Boston.
Dr. Chen was honored with Edward Nagy Award from the National
Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) for his
significant achievement in 3D bioprinting.
Wei Zhu was awarded 2nd Prize in the Poster Session of the Nature
Conference for Genomic Technologies and Biomaterials for
Understanding Diseases (June 23-24, 2014). The conference was
organized by journals Nature and Nature Biotechnology.
Our cell engineering work has been selected to show in the San
Diego International Airport (Terminal 2 Hallway).
Dr. Chen was invited to talk about bioprinting with KPCC's
Crawford Family Forum, Southern California Public Radio's
in-person content platform. KPCC is the largest NPR affiliate in
Southern California. This talk show is for KPCC's science series,
